LIVE AQUARIUM PLANT
Petite Anubias Nana (Anubias barteri "Petite Nana") is a very in-demand Anubias variety for the home aquarium. Unlike many plants, Petite Anubias Nana attaches itself to and propagates on aquarium décor rather than growing with its roots buried in the substrate. "Petite" Anubias plants can grow to the same mass size as other similar plants of the genus, but their individual leaves are much smaller & more plentiful.
Petite Anubias Nana is relatively rare because it is very slow growing. It only requires low to moderate lighting & nutrient rich water, although its growth rate can be increased through CO2 injection/supplementation. It reproduces through rhizome division. If it is planted in the substrate, Petite Anubias Nana should not be planted with its rhizome (roots) buried in the substrate or it will rot & recede. Instead, it can be attached to rocks, driftwood, and other decorations in the aquarium, or it can be planted on top of the substrate if the roots are not completely buried. It is a very durable plantS and it can be kept in a wide variety of water parameters.
CO2 supplementation is beneficial, but not necessary for this plant. Like other Anubias varieties, Petite Anubias Nana does not seem to benefit from further chemical supplementation, though it is not visibly harmed by them in a mixed plant aquarium.
